Brandon Bryant: Drone operator followed orders to shoot a child... and decided he had to quit | Mail Online

Drones. A topic many ignore because the initial message we get from the image is almost toy like. It's just a toy. A remote controlled plane toy. Semantically, the word "drone" does just that: drones quietly on in our subconscious, just a silent toy we are detached from. We forget these drones are operated by humans thousands of miles away; like a video game. Killing from afar. The obvious tragedy of what it does to the victims, as well as the less obvious toll it takes on the "detached" humans operating the drones from afar. What will be the effects of this long distance killing by machine be on our humanity in a few years?

Brandon Bryant: Drone operator followed orders to shoot a child... and decided he had to quit | Mail Online:
'Did we just kill a kid?' he asked the pilot next to him.

'Yeah, I guess that was a kid,' the man replied.

Thoughts jotted in his diary on uneventful days clearly show the heavy burden his job was placing on him.

'On the battlefield there are no sides, just bloodshed. Total war. Every horror witnessed. I wish my eyes would rot,' he wrote on one occasion.

He began to shut himself off from his friends, and his girlfriend complained about his bad moods.

'I can't just switch and go back to normal life,' he said to her. He stopped sleeping and began to exercise instead.

Petition | USDA: No More Lion Burgers! Ban the Sale of Lion Meat |

Petition | USDA: No More Lion Burgers! Ban the Sale of Lion Meat | It's unbelievable that restaurants in the US are allowed to serve lion meat. It's almost impossible to find out where the meat comes from -- it could be imported, from animals in zoos or circuses, or from lions raised on farms in the Midwest -- the people who kill lions and sell them as meat aren't exactly forthcoming ... and they don't have to be because lion meat isn't really regulated by the government.

Lockdown Drill Scares School in East Harlem -

Another "drill" lockdown. Note that the student population "erves 300 students with special needs, including those with severe emotional disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy and other disorders." This is a targeted population for these kinds of scenarios. Lockdown Drill Scares School in East Harlem -

Sometimes the local police are in on these drills, but in this case, they weren't. They arrived at the school in response to a 911 call made from within the school.

Shooting "Drill" in Albany Oregon School (2007)

Very scary. This from 2007, Albany Oregon. Just amazing what lengths authorities go in the name of "being prepared." Within these systems are the willing participants, who, for the most part, are unaware of the part they're playing.

The Hemp Conspiracy: Why U.S. Hemp Farming Was Banned | TruthTheory

The Hemp Conspiracy: Why U.S. Hemp Farming Was Banned | TruthTheory: For thousands of years industrial hemp was a common staple. It fed us, clothed us, housed us, sailed our ships with hemp rope and sails, it was part of our livelihood.

Then, in the early 1900s, it was banned and pushed aside.

Why? Why did this wonderful, useful plant get labeled with a criminal stamp?

Around the turn of the 20th century companies like DuPont created chemicals that were used in processing of paper; DuPont also created chemicals used for pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, which were used extensively by the cotton industry (cotton is MUCH more chemical and water intensive compared to hemp). While this was going on, William Randolph Hearst invested in timber and mills to produce the paper for his newspaper, which was the largest chain in the U.S. at the time. His investments in the timber industry were backed by Mellon Bank.

The U.S. Secretary of the Treasury at that time was Andrew Mellon, who happened to own Mellon Bank (and was one of the backers for DuPont as well).

Google starts watching what you do off the Internet too — RT: Google is all but certain to ensure that all user data collected off- and online will be cloaked through safeguards that will allow for complete and total anonymity for customers. When on-the-Web interactions start mirroring real life activity, though, even a certain degree of privacy doesn’t make Conversions API any less creepy. Facebook Now Suspending Accounts Which Question Mainstream Media Reporting/Account of Events – Secrets of the Fed: It seems that Facebook is now in the business of shutting down the accounts of journalists who question the mainstream medias reporting of the news. Saturday night I was alerted by Facebook that I would have to wait three days until I was able to log onto my personal Facebook account again. I was informed the reason for this punishment was the result of meme I had shared. Facebook told me it “…violates Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities”. I was further warned that “If you continue to abuse Facebook’s features, your account could be permanently disabled”.
Below is the image I had shared on my Facebook “Fan page” entitled “We Know The Secrets of the Federal Reserve” ( which posts memes as well as stories from our alternative media website

5 Unbelievably Creepy Surveillance Tactics | Alternet

At the top of the list, listening in on bus riders -- see post below. In fact, the city where I live, Eugene, is among the small handful of cities nationwide  putting eavesdropping into practice. Soon, all buses everywhere will be watching you, via cameras, as well as listening to your conversations.
5 Unbelievably Creepy Surveillance Tactics | Alternet: Since the erosion of Americans' civil liberties depends on high levels of public apathy, some of the most dangerous privacy breaches take place incrementally and under the radar; if it invites comparisons to Blade Runner or Orwell, then someone in the PR department didn't do their job. Meanwhile, some of the biggest threats to privacy, like insecure online data or iPhone GPS tracking, are physically unobtrusive and therefore easily ignored. And it'll be at least a year or two until the sky is overrun by spy drones.

So when a method of surveillance literally resembles a prop or plot point in a sci-fi movie, it helps to reveal just how widespread and sophisticated commercial and government monitoring has become. Here are five recent developments that seem almost unreal in their dystopian creepiness.
There are several more intrusive methods, including "tagging" of school children. Those behind the chipping and monitoring of school kids would have us believe it's to help students, for example, helping students avoid being tardy:

It's probably best to train people in robotic discipline early, and many US schools, aided by surveillance technology vendors, are on it . . . One pilot program for middle schoolers used GPS to make sure kids aren't late:
Each school day, the delinquent students get an automated “wake-up” phone call reminding them that they need to get to school on time. In addition, five times a day they are required to enter a code that tracks their locations... students are also assigned an adult “coach” who calls them at least three times a week to see how they are doing...

Local Buses Listen in on Riders, Right Here in Eugene

My for now home town of Eugene, Oregon: local bus line LTD watches riders via cameras on buses, as well as listening to their conversations. All part of a federal program. Disingenuously, Andy Vobora, the bus company's media person, assures us this surveillance has been going on for "about a decade" and after all, we all want to feel safe:

Concern raised over bus surveillance systems | Video and audio monitoring have been part of LTD for a while, but many people were unaware of the devices: n article published on The Daily website last week said government officials are installing audio surveillance systems on public buses nationwide to listen to riders’ conversations. Eugene was included in the list of areas that already have or soon will have such surveillance, the website reported.

Some residents took to LTD’s Facebook page and other media outlets to air their concerns about the practice, which they say is a violation of privacy. But LTD spokesman Andy Vobora said many of the district’s buses have been equipped with audio monitoring devices for about a decade, and LTD has had video cameras on buses even longer.

LTD didn’t make its initial decision in secret to record conversations on buses, Vobora said. He said LTD invited community comment at that time. To this day, signs inside the buses remind riders they are being recorded, he said.

Smart TVs can spy on their owners — RT

An obivous question: why have this capability -- what's the purpose? Article goes on to assure us that there is a "silver lining."
Smart TVs can spy on their owners — RT: iewers, beware: while you’re watching TV, your TV might be watching you back. A security firm discovered that Samsung’s Smart TV can give hackers access to the device’s built-in camera and microphones, allowing them to watch everything you do.

The Malta-based firm ReVuln posted a video showing its team of researchers hacking into one of the Samsung TVs and accessing its settings, channel lists, widgets, USB drives, and remote control configurations. The security flaw allows hackers to access any and all personal data stored on the TV.

“We can install malicious software to gain complete root access to the TV,” the video writes.

With this access, hackers can use the Smart TVs built-in camera and microphones to see and hear everything in front of it. Instead of just watching TV, viewers could themselves be watched without knowing it.

But this flaw isn’t present in just one specific model. The vulnerability affects all 11 Samsung televisions of the latest generation. The Smart TVs have many of the same features as a computer, but lack the same kind of protection. The devices do not have security features such as firewalls and antivirus software.

Is Privacy History? Top 5 Ways You Are Being Digitally Monitored and Catalogued Daily - Waking Times : Waking Times

All this surveillance is leading up to something, which is obvious, it seems to me. But read on to find out what that is:Is Privacy History? Top 5 Ways You Are Being Digitally Monitored and Catalogued Daily - Waking Times : Waking Times: What if somebody told you that you were being monitored inside and outside your home 24 hours a day? Would you believe them? Most people wouldn’t. However reality is often scarier than fiction. Chances are if you’re reading this, you likely live in a nation that utilizes the following tracking methodologies that have only one purpose…to digitally record and catalogue your every move.

For the past two decades, there has been a malevolent movement across industrialized nations to track individuals without their knowledge and with a total disregard for privacy.

Everyone is fair game: Spy agency conducts surveillance on all US citizens — RT: The Obama administration overruled recommendations from within the US Department of Homeland Security and implemented new guidelines earlier this year that allow the government to gather and analyze intelligence on every single US citizen.

Since the spring, a little-know intelligence agency outside of Washington, DC has been able to circumvent the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution and conduct dragnet surveillance of the entire country, combing massive datasets using advanced algorithms to search and seize personal info on anyone this wish, reports the Wall Street Journal this week.

Eugene, OR: Arrest at 'Free Speech' Zone

Used to be, this area in what is called "downtown" is a free speech area. In fact, it is called "The Free Speech Plaza" and has been known and used as such for some time. For some reason, abruptly and arbitrarily, county administrator Liane Richardson decided to close off the area (fence all around) at the free speech plaza "for cleaning." In a previous article, Liane Richardson was quoted as saying the area was closed for "health and safety" reasons. "

It's really about control -- this is the same area that so far, has managed to legally get away with their "exclusion zone" policy. A citizen can be banned from downtown for up to a year. It's also about ignoring the homeless. "Camping" is illegal on city "public" property. The timing is interesting; it's winter in Oregon, the Christmas season, and we expect the homeless to just go away. Can't have homeless in sight as we go about our shopping.

Serial killer assignment withdrawn from curriculum |

Offered, then withdrawn. I suspect the entire exercise was intentional, for surely, no teacher or school administration could seriously believe that such an assignment was a good idea. If nothing else, simply considering the CYA (cover your ass) angle; the outrage from at least one outraged parent wouldn't be worth the hassle. Serial killer assignment withdrawn from curriculum |

But as we've seen, these kinds of violent and fear filled scenarios have been inserted into school curriculums -- from elementary to high school -- for awhile now. Often under the guise of "fostering critical thinking skills" or "facilitating creativity" these violent and frightening episodes are often presented as actually happening. Parents are often not notified, and half the time neither is the whole school staff. Sometimes local police and other authorities are in on the so-called academic exercise.

Some of the choices in the assignment:
Your task choices:

1. Draw a cartoon panel about how your serial killer murdered someone. (2)

2. Produce a detailed artwork about your chosen serial killer. (3)

3. Choose two serial killers, compare them and decide which of them is worse and why. (3)

4. Write a poem about a serial killer. (2)

5. Write a newspaper article about a serial killer who hasn't been caught yet. Describe what they are doing, why people should be scared, what they should look out for etc etc. Make it look like a real newspaper article (at least 200 words). (4)

6. Write an interview with a serial killer as if you were a journalist a make up their answers. (3)

7. Do an A-Z chart of serial killers. (2)

8. Construct a serial killer survey and record the results. (2)

9. Categorise 10 different serial killers into their different motivations (hedonistic, visionary, mission orientated, power/control) and why you have chosen that. (4)

10. Do a similarities and differences table between a spree killer and a serial killer. have at least 10 examples of each. (3)

11. Invent a psychological test which you could give to someone which would accurately assess if someone was a potential serial killer. (5)

NYPD Proves Street Artist Right by Tracking Him Down and Arresting Him

Interesting to see where this will go. He's an artist; will the ACLU get involved?
NYPD Proves Street Artist Right by Tracking Him Down and Arresting Him: Essam Attia is the New York street artist responsible for placing fake NYPD ads reading "Drones: Protection When You Least Expect It" around town. In September, he gave a video interview to Animal NY, with his identity and voice obscured, in which he discussed this project and his art in general. Wednesday morning, the NYPD arrested him at home.

The NYDN reports that he's charged with "56 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, grand larceny possession of stolen property and weapons possession,"
that last, according to the article, because a .22 pistol (unloaded) was found under his bed. I'd imagine many citizens of NYC have guns for protection.

Still—great work by the NYPD to prove Essam's point: you are all being watched. Poke humor at the ALL SEEING GOVERNMENT EYE, and it will make you pay. IT KNOWS ALL.

Baker was the guest last night on C2C; excellent show. Lawyers: Colo shooting suspect can't go to hearing

Things keep getting curiouser and curiouser in this case:Lawyers: Colo shooting suspect can't go to hearing

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — A court hearing for the man charged with the Colorado movie theater killings has been postponed after his attorneys said Wednesday that he had been taken to a hospital for unspecified reasons.

Court documents filed Wednesday gave no details of James E. Holmes' condition, other than that it "renders him unable to be present in court for (Thursday's) hearing." The hearing had been scheduled to discuss pretrial motions and media requests for information under state open records laws.

At a hearing Wednesday on defense attorneys' request to delay the court date, defense attorney Tamara Brady said Holmes was taken to a hospital Tuesday. She didn't say where or offer details on why, saying attorneys don't want to disclose privileged medical or psychiatric information.

"It's not as simple as a migraine, and it's not something that will resolve by tomorrow morning," she said.

Arapahoe County District Judge William B. Sylvester said that was sufficient information for him and postponed the Thursday hearing until Dec. 10.

Prosecutor Rich Orman had objected, saying the defense should be required to give information on Holmes' condition first.

It wasn't clear if Holmes was still in the hospital, but he didn't attend the emergency hearing.

Big Brother UK: 8 million children recorded on massive secret database — RT

This is like something out of the very great (and scary for its presentient, dystopian insights) fictional UK series Torchwood.Big Brother UK: 8 million children recorded on massive secret database:

A newly uncovered clandestine computer network, known as the ‘One System,’ can reportedly share children’s personal details across different UK agencies, including age, sex, address and their school behavior records – all without parents ever knowing.

One of Britain’s biggest government contractors has created a database containing the personal details of 8 million children, the Sunday Times revealed.

In an Orwellian twist, the firm hires photographers to take pictures of schoolchildren, which they then offer for sale to their parents before uploading them onto the database.

“The only reason they’ve designed this is about profit, it’s not about keeping children safe,” Pickles said.

Capita has been providing school management databases for local councils, called ‘Sims,’ for several years. Those councils can now upload data from Sims onto the One Database. The records, if required, could be integrated into a larger centralized database.

In Swindon, a large town in southern England, records on 48,000 pupils are stored on the Capita One database and have been shared with health officials at local NHS hospitals, and with teams that work with young offenders.

Capita children’s services, which designed the system, told the Sunday Times that it could be used to identify vulnerable children who may need support from social workers.

Pickles disagrees: “Child protection can not be delegated to an algorithm without local or individual knowledge of that child. Databases and computers remove human judgment.”

Food to Feed Both the Homeless and The Rest of Us Cogs

I find the juxtapositions of these two items interesting. The first is about food trucks seen as vehicles of terrorist doings: If You Eat Something, Say Something: DHS Sounds The Alarm On The 'Terrorist Implications' Of Food Trucks | Techdirt:

It's interesting (or maybe just kind of sad) that various government agencies see possible terrorists everywhere but rarely, if ever, catch one. Despite the large number of personnel being thrown at the problem (along with lots of money), actual terrorists seem to be in limited supply.

But these agencies haven't let their lack of success temper their vision of a nation under constant imminent attack. Public Intelligence recently posted a Powerpoint presentation from the NYC fire department (FDNY) discussing the unique safety issues mobile food trucks present. Along with some actual concerns (many food trucks use propane and/or gasoline-powered generators to cook; some *gasp* aren't properly licensed food vendors), the presenter decided to toss in some DHS speculation on yet another way terrorists might be killing us in the near future.

That's right. Instead of serving up a quick hot meal, these food trucks will be serving up death, and lots of it! Under the heading "Terrorist Implications," the FDNY lists the exact reasons we should be concerned, most of which begin with the word "high."

The second item; Mayor Bloomberg's War on Food. Besides banning big gulp type sodas, Bloomberg has banned food donations to homeless shelters. The reason given for this ban is that there is no way to check donated food for "...optimal levels of nutrition."

It's as if a giant, almost invisible net, made of the rarest and most comfortable silk, has been dropped over us, and hundreds out of its thousands of threads tighten around us each day. It's so subtle and barely detectable, so unrelated to all the other threads, that we don't notice we're being dragged for slaughter.

Sandy refugees say life in tent city feels like prison

Sandy refugees say life in tent city feels like prison - Yahoo! News: OCEANPORT, New Jersey (Reuters) - It is hard to sleep at night inside the tent city at Oceanport, New Jersey. A few hundred Superstorm Sandy refugees have been living here since Wednesday - a muddy camp that is a sprawling anomaly amidst Mercedes Benz dealerships and country clubs in this town near the state's devastated coastal region.

Inside the giant billowy white tents, the massive klieg lights glare down from the ceiling all night long. The air is loud with the buzz of generators pumping out power. The post-storm housing — a refugee camp on the grounds of the Monmouth Park racetrack - is in lockdown, with security guards at every door, including the showers.

No one is allowed to go anywhere without showing their I.D. Even to use the bathroom, "you have to show your badge," said Amber Decamp, a 22-year-old whose rental was washed away in Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

The mini city has no cigarettes, no books, no magazines, no board games, no TVs, and no newspapers or radios. On Friday night, in front of the mess hall, which was serving fried chicken and out-of-the-box, just-add-water potatoes, a child was dancing and dancing — to nothing. "We're starting to lose it," said Decamp. "But we have nowhere else to go."

Signs of an Emerging Police State | Project Censored

Project Censored. Here's number 1 on the police state in this country, which has been a long time in coming, and certainly with a terrible focus since 9/11.

1. Signs of an Emerging Police State | Project Censored: Since the passage of the 2001 PATRIOT Act, the United States has become increasingly monitored and militarized at the expense of civil liberties. The 2012 passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has allowed the military to detain indefinitely without trial any US citizen that the government labels a terrorist or an accessory to terrorism, while President Barack Obama’s signing of the National Defense Resources Preparedness Executive Order has authorized widespread federal and military control of the national economy and resources during “emergency and non-emergency conditions.” Since 2010, the Department of Homeland Security’s If You See Something, Say Something™ campaign has encouraged the public to report all suspicious activity to local authorities, even though actions that the DHS identifies as “suspicious” include the constitutionally protected right to criticize the government or engage in nonviolent protest.

New Jersey Contracted RFID Evacuee Tracking Tech Just Days Before Sandy Formed :

By Aaron Dykes
November 5, 2012

Presciently, the State of New Jersey announced a 5-year contract for RFID tracking technology used to assist in evacuation by identifying and monitoring the location of evacuees and emergency assets during hurricanes or other disasters just four days before Hurricane Sandy began to form.

A press release was published October 18, 2012 announcing that Radiant RFID, based in Austin, Texas, would provide the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (OHSP) with the RFID technology it has already used during disasters in Texas and other locales, as during 2008′s Hurricane Gustav.

From the press release:

Radiant RFID will provide the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (OHSP) with an RFID-based managed evacuation solution that tracks evacuees, pets, emergency transport vehicles and commodities deployed at state shelters in preparation for and in the event of a hurricane, natural disaster or other incident to assist in reunification of families.

1. Create a climate of fear.

2. Get everyone online.

3. Enable even the poor to carry a cell phone.

4. Get everyone to talk about RFID and biometrics: the first phase of acceptance is expectation.

5. Chip as many things and people as you can (phones, pets, clothing, etc.) to make it normal.

6. Set up a global ID system but keep it hush hush.

It's Time for the Poor to Come Out of the Plutocracy's Closet of Shame

It's Time for the Poor to Come Out of the Plutocracy's Closet of Shame: cholarly communities generally agree that it is wrong to disallow a fellow scholar's participation in a conference due to their race, sexuality, nationality or citizenship, or gender. There is not, however, an equal objection to excluding people on the basis of their economic standing. As a poor scholar tasked with supporting a family, I have been embarrassed to have had to apologetically cancel participation in conferences because of economic limitations that made me unable to pay for registration fees and travel costs. In the realm of health care, poverty has meant choosing tooth extraction over tooth repair because I didn't have insurance and couldn't afford the procedure. My missing tooth is a constant reminder that the poor are routinely denied basic human dignity in our society, even when they are recipients of racial, gender, and/or sexual privilege. If this is true of white, male, heterosexual, educated American poor people, then it is likely worse for those who are additionally "othered" due to race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, nationality or citizenship status, and/or education.

Virginia Police Hold Training Seminar About Sovereign Citizens :

On December 5, 2012 the Virginia Office of the Attorney General is hosting a seminar about Sovereign Citizens for local law enforcement.
The seminar will last 7 hours and will take place at 990 Hilton Heights Road in Charlottesville, Virginia.
According to a press release posted by the DCJS:
The sovereign citizen movement involves individuals and groups who uniformly reject federal and state authority.
Activities by these groups have included redemption schemes, use of fraudulent driver’s licenses and vehicle plates, and use of documents that falsely claim diplomatic and law enforcement privileges.
In recent years, law enforcement personnel in the Commonwealth have experienced a rise in the number of encounters with sovereign citizen.
While the majority of these encounters do not involve violence, the potential for harm to law enforcement exists.”
The press release admits that most Sovereigns are not not violent, but they are seen as a danger because their worldview undermines the authority of law enforcement.

Romney, Business Allies Finish With Strong Argument: Vote With Us, Or You're Fired

Romney, Business Allies Finish With Strong Argument: Vote With Us, Or You're Fired: WASHINGTON -- The Mitt Romney campaign and its business allies are driving home a final message unlike one we've seen in past presidential campaigns: Vote Romney, or you're fired.

The pressure on workers in swing states to toe the GOP line hasn't been restricted to any particular industry. Corporate apparel makers in Ohio, truck stop attendants in Ohio and Virginia, casino employees in Nevada, construction workers in Florida, gift-card purveyors in Colorado and Florida, car-parts makers in Michigan, software technicians in Florida and Colorado, coal miners in Ohio, dock manufacturers in Wisconsin, frozen-food packers in Michigan, resort staff in Florida, Virginia and Nevada, and people all over the country who work -- or used to work -- for Koch Industries or another Koch-owned company have all been given notice by their boss that an Obama victory could lead to layoffs or otherwise harm the company and its workers.

Even workers who'd already been laid off by the Kochs were mailed letters urging them to vote Republican or else "suffer the consequences" of Obama policies that would harm the company.

Sheila Quirke: 'Make Your Own Damn Dinner, Mitt'

Quirke says it all. "Binders full of women" indeed. In Mitthead's mind, those binders are probably full of pictures like these:

Sheila Quirke: Make Your Own Damn Dinner, Mitt: Last night, in response to a young woman's question about lessening the wage gap between men and women in the workplace (it felt like a flashback to 1984, honestly), Mitt started talking about things like binders and moms utilizing flex-time to go home early and fix dinner.

The thinly-veiled misogyny in Mitt's responses has me reeling. Why is it that women, moms specifically, need to go home and make dinner? Where are the men? Do men not eat? Do men not cook? Do men go hungry, waiting for their working women to tend to their most basic of human needs?
In choosing those words and sharing anecdotal evidence of his progressive work place strategies, he both dates and outs himself. He makes himself the helper of women, and it is through his beneficence that moms can cook and tend to their families. Thank you, Mitt. Truly, thank you.

President Obama Signs “Anti-Protest” Bill H.R. 347

The new law, which passed the House with a vote of 399-3, extends the original law by adding more protected areas within Washington D.C, and removing the word “willfully,” from the paragraph stating that protesters can be prosecuted if they enter the area “willfully and knowingly.”

Representative Justin Amash, R-Michigan, explains this change by saying:

“ The bill expands current law to make it a crime to enter or remain in an area where an official is visiting even if the person does not know it’s illegal to be in that area and has no reason to suspect its illegal.”

Occupy DC protesters are calling the modifications an infringement on their First Amendment rights, because of the areas of D.C. that have been added to the protected areas portion of the act.

Anti-DEA rants on Facebook spark criminal prosecution | Politics and Law - CNET News: Anti-government rants on Facebook can land you in a heap of trouble.

A federal judge has given the green light to the U.S. Justice Department's prosecution of an Indiana man who allegedly posted incendiary remarks about police.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge William Lawrence in Indiana rejected requests by the defendant, Matthew Michael, to throw out the charges on the grounds that no specific Drug Enforcement Administration agent or other individual had actually been named in the posts.

Lawrence ruled that -- assuming the Facebook postings were illegal threats, which has yet to be proved -- they "were directed at natural persons, namely DEA agents, law enforcement officers, and government personnel."

Piercy expects deadlock on downtown exclusion zone issue

Update on the "exclusion law" here in Eugene, Oregon (see post below.) Piercy expects deadlock on downtown exclusion zone issue

GUEST VIEWPOINT: Eugene’s public safety zone unfairly enforced

I've posted before about my town's "exclusion law" which seems blatantly illegal, yet, it continues to be enforced. It has the approval of the city council, the mayor, and many, many citizens. Here's an excellent article by Jean Stacy, a local activist with Occupy Eugene, on the types of violations people are being cited for. GUEST VIEWPOINT: Eugene’s public safety zone unfairly enforced.

As the title of the article reads, it's euphemistically called "public safety zone" law but it is a law that targets those who are poor, or simply don't fit in with the random standards of the moment. Beyond that however is the real reason behind this law: control through fear. Fear of so-called "good citizens" who think they're immune from this kind of treatment because they pay taxes, they have jobs, they have no premeditated intent to break laws or cause trouble. Fear of those tax paying citizens of the homeless, the poor, society's misfits and trouble makers. Playing to those fears by appeasing them, local authorities passes "exclusion laws" to comfort the rest of us. And so, subtly those tax paying, honest citizens are also controlled.

The rest are controlled but through more blatant methods. Fear of being "excluded" from the downtown area -- which includes the public library -- fined, arrested, the rest of the hoi polloi are hassled. True, many of them hassle the rest of us. Pan handling, in your face groups of teens, etc. but that's life int he big city. Which, as much as Eugene pretends it is, it is not. Uncomfortable encounters with others does not give cause to enact unconstitutional laws.

Among the "crimes" people have been busted for, according to the article, is the felony charge of pot smoking. It would be a misdemeanor except for the following:
Thirty-five percent of the exclusion notices’ most egregious charges are for marijuana — not “serious crimes,” as stated by the police chief.

Ninety percent of those marijuana charges are bumped from violations to felonies by charging that they occurred within 1,000 feet of a tiny school hidden in the Overpark area — a school that few would know exists, because it is not marked or posted as a school.
Stacy writes of many other examples of Draconian actions by authorities; ridiculous and petty actions, including "theft of services" and a one armed man in a wheelchair being cited for breaking the leash law. (Leash was tied to wheelchair, but, since it wasn't in his hand -- his one hand -- he was in violation.)

As Stacy points out, how long will it be before the city of Eugene gets its totalitarian collective ass sued? It needs to happen, since local opposition to the law has been in the minority and the law continues to exist.

Dystopian Novel: The Owl Keeper

I recently read this young adult novel by Christine Brodien-Jones. I loved it. It's a dystopian  novel and for that, bleak of course. And, as with the Hunger Games and similar novels, I wonder at the intention of the authors. Just what are they trying to tell us? I suspect, or at least, like to think it is so, that they are well aware of the state of things. Or, being the true paranoid conspiracy tumbling down the rabbit hole observer that I am, one could take the opposing view and suggest these writers are twisting the reality of our police state into a comforting, fantasy laden romp. I doubt that though; while it could be said it's true of the aftermath of the success of books -- again, Hunger Games -- with all the commercialism and weakening of the message in favor of the fad of bow hunting, I don't think that was the original intent. And then there's the fact that the age of readers these books are written for is often an age where the world is dystopian, just by definition. But I'm over thinking all of this. It's a good book, I enjoyed it, and recommend it for young readers and adults alike.

Have town and city councils become the servants of evil?

Synchronicity. As I was saying in the post below: Have town and city councils become the servants of evil?

Democrats Against U.N. Agenda 21

This was the topic on Coast to Coast last night:DEMOCRATS AGAINST U. N. AGENDA 21 - OK, So what is Agenda 21? And why should I care? Part 1

I often post about the totalitarian state, and then am often surprised when, in following link to link to link, I find myself in a decidedly right wing place. Liberals are woefully naive, right wingers are, well, you know. Fucking right wingers.

I recognized much of what Rosa Koire, author of Behind the Green Mask, discussed on C2C going on in my own town. Not too long ago, I noticed items here and there in the local papers about urban planning for the future. Since we talk about moving to the country often, we keep in mind the location. We don't want to find ourselves in a situation where, in ten years or so urban sprawl has come to our doorstep. The growth of this area (Eugene) is considered a good thing. We have an "exclusion law" which I am surprised is allowed to continue, but that law keeps those authority deems undesirable from going "downtown" such as it is. Which includes the library.

Another issue: the Emx bus. A bus twice the length of a regular bus with special lanes and it will go to Walmart. It won't go the airport, or further out 126 towards more rural areas. It will cause huge hassles for business owners and traffic as they rip up the heavily traveled streets to build the lanes for the buses. All in the name of supporting "growth."

I am suspect of those who deny global warming, and use the excuse that laws to protect the environment are a ruse. Ignorant and greedy repugs say those things to absolve us of responsibility. But there is the other side, as Koire says, and it's good to beware.

It's not that there's anything wrong with "mixed use" developments on its own. It's actually a good idea. The problem is the aftermath of such developments, and the real agendas behind such ideas. It's what's being done with the money and to our towns that is the issue.

...the property taxes in that area can be diverted away from the General Fund. This constriction of available funds is impoverishing the cities, forcing them to offer less and less services, and reducing your standard of living.  They'll be telling you that it's better, however, since they've put in nice street lights and colored paving.  The money gets redirected into the Redevelopment Agency and handed out to favored developers building low income housing and mixed use. Smart Growth. Cities have had thousands of condos built in the redevelopment areas and are telling you that you are terrible for wanting your own yard, for wanting privacy, for not wanting to be dictated to by a Condo Homeowner's Association Board, for being anti-social, for not going along to get along, for not moving into a cramped apartment downtown where they can use your property taxes for paying off that huge bond debt.  But it's not working, and you don't want to move in there.  So they have to make you.  Read on.

Human habitation, as it is referred to now, is restricted to lands within the Urban Growth Boundaries of the city.  Only certain building designs are permitted.  Rural property is more and more restricted in what uses can be on it.  Although counties say that they support agricultural uses, eating locally produced food, farmer's markets, etc, in fact there are so many regulations restricting water and land use (there are scenic corridors, inland rural corridors, baylands corridors, area plans, specific plans, redevelopment plans, huge fees, fines) that farmers are losing their lands altogether.

Once you realize this, you see how seemingly unrelated events are absolutely part of this Agenda. How many news items have we seen of individuals cited or arrested for growing gardens, having raised beds in their front yards, for example? The FBI recently updated it's list of suspicious things domestic terrorists do: among the suspicious activities, participating in a community garden.

UFO Magazine: - ...Isn't It Queer...

Alfred Lehmberg, the only voice that has been consistently calling for attention to be paid to the incarceration of John Ford. UFO Magazine - UFO Magazine Blog - ...Isn't It Queer...
Though, it's Ford who is jailed like a serial fiend, when, in TRUTH, he's done nothing but question "the meme"! ...And what is this "meme," then, the circumspect ask? Well, the meme that you can't take the "system" to task!
He's scorned for his courage of strident conviction! He's jailed for reasons concocted from fiction! He lives a perdition of "slow rot" to please... those who "make out" if he's brought to his knees!
He lives his debasement to further the ends of the demons who profit from what they propend. He's tied up and muffled to further the cause of political ambitions... that should give us all pause! Forgotten and lonely he sits in his cell, thinking—quite rightly—he's gone straight to hell.
What's the damn hold up? When was his "crime"? Who was it injured for John doing time? Where are the reasons he's suffered these years? Why can't we help him?
Isn't it queer?
How's it continued he's held and confined, and never a trial? Why, I'd lose my mind! From the pages of Kafka, confined and abused for years without end... could we BE more bemused?

From Natural News: 'The basis of mass mind control'

Jon Rappoport writes on image synced to emotion and how that combination equals control. Very interesting! The basis of mass mind control
It's so simple. And everybody knows it.

Mass mind control focuses on two elements: image and feeling.

By linking the two primary elements, it is possible to short-circuit thought and "cut to the chase," when it comes to enlisting the allegiance of huge populations.

Two seemingly unrelated events spurred my interest in mass mind control.

On the evening of April 12, 1945, I listened to a radio report on the death of Franklin D Roosevelt. I was seven years old.

I became upset. I didn't know why. I was angry at my own reaction.

Forty years later, I pulled into a gas station near my apartment in West Los Angeles. I got out of my car and took the cap off my gas tank. I looked to my right and saw Tony Curtis sitting in his car. I was shocked.

16-Year-Old Questioned by FBI Over You Tube Video :

16 yr old makes a video on police state tactics in America, gets an A+, and a visit from the FBI who question him about his interests and why he discussed the Illuminati with his teacher. How did they know he had that conversation?

16-Year-Old Questioned by FBI Over You Tube Video
“They also asked me why I had talked to my teacher about the Illuminati,” writes Hallman. “I told them it was just harmless talk about the 1776 Illuminati that formed from the enlightenment era. I said my teacher said they are/were terrorists and not to talk about them (this caused the FBI agents to look puzzled and they changed the subject very fast to Anonymous). In the end they finally left for an “important meeting.”

The fact that the FBI men knew about Hallman’s conversation with his teacher clearly suggests that it was the teacher or another official at the school who reported Hallman to the FBI in the first place.

Hallman concluded his email by expressing concern the incident could hamper his future career prospects.

“So that’s my story, a teen from the suburbs who was questioned by the FBI about a harmless free speech protected video I made for school.

My record forever scarred with the truth that the FBI questioned me. When getting a job they will see that, when getting a passport they will see that, when going to college they will see that,” he writes.

City To Be Watched By Permanent Eye In The Sky Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!

City To Be Watched By Permanent Eye In The Sky Alex Jones' Infowars
The Californian city of Lancaster will be the first to experience a “new era in law enforcement surveillance” with residents set to be watched by a permanent eye in the sky which will beam constant video footage back to police headquarters including crimes in progress as well as “scenes of mundane day-to-day life.”

A Cessna plane fitted with sophisticated video surveillance technology will fly loops around the city and send footage directly back to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department dispatch center. Officials plan to add a second aircraft to the arsenal at a later date.

The mayor's comments are certainly interesting... watch for what he says in the video clip.

Woman sought in tuberculosis case arrested near Maysville | Online Athens

This is a weird item: Woman sought in tuberculosis case arrested near Maysville | Online Athens

Woman has TB, was going through treatments then stopped. Various authorities determine she'll be arrested if she doesn't comply with continuing treatments; she is literally chased down and taken to an "isolation" hospital section in jail.

I'm not suggesting TB is anything to be cavalier about, but the overall tone of this item is strange. From the hunting down of a woman who flees from treatment, her arrest, and a few contradictory statements:
Lou Kudon, a spokesman for the Northeast Health District, said Wednesday that due to regulations he could not talk about Hicks or whether an investigation is being made in regards to people who Hicks has had recent contact with.

However, he said when someone has tuberculosis in the community there is usually no risk unless there is close and prolonged contact.

Usually when we have TB, we only test the household contacts because it does take prolonged exposure to get TB,” he said.

Activist Post: 5 strategies for peacefully underthrowing the status quo

Activist Post: 5 strategies for peacefully underthrowing the status quo by J. B. Vibes, author of Alchemy of the Modern Renaissance.
I've highlighted some of his points, but read the full article for more. For example:
(1) - Finding personal freedom – This should definitely be the first step, because when we find peace in our own hearts we are much better prepared and equipped to bring peace into the hearts of others.

And this one, very important. No matter in what small way you can practice this, it helps:
(2) - Practicing Agorism – Agorism is a strategy of noncompliance that uses counter economics and underground markets as a way of keeping power in the hands of the average people, thus slowly diminishing the power and relevance of the control structure.

This one, "inventing oldspeak" is the most important, to my mind. Maybe "important" is not quite the right word, for they're all important. But this one really struck me as being very powerful:
(3) - Reinventing oldspeak – When it comes to the power of words, the general population is far outmatched by the ruling class. There have been generations of work among the aristocracy completely dedicated to mastering the art of verbal manipulation and deception. They have their newspeak, which cloaks their transgressions in an air of false legitimacy, so we in turn, need to develop an oldspeak that describes reality as it is, but we need to be just as innovative and creative as those working against us.

  • Characterize the charges as "rumors" or, better yet, "wild rumors." If, in spite of the news blackout, the public is still able to learn about the suspicious facts, it can only be through "rumors." (If they tend to believe the "rumors" it must be because they are simply "paranoid" or "hysterical.")

Not on Facebook? You're a Psycho

And seeing this only a few moments after I posted on my FB page that I'm considering, not for the first time, leaving FB. Is not joining Facebook a sign you're a psychopath? Some employers and psychologists say it's 'suspicious' | Mail Online

They really want us staying stuck on the grid! Pay with cash? You're a terrorist. Collect rainwater on your property? You're jailed and fined. Don't have a cell phone? You can't even access a lot of places because the forms are set up for texting only replies. And so on. . .

So now, even though employers can use your social media presence against you, they can also use the fact you're not on Facebook or other social media as indications you might be a psycho or terrorist. Notice how this article links the killers Anders Behring Brevik (the Norwegian mass murderer) and James Holmes (see post below for interesting photo comparisons of pre-killing Holmes and the post-mass murdering Holmes) as examples of non-Facebook individuals.

And of course we have popular culture's cliche of the right wing Ted Nugent wacko types depicted as "preppers" and "militants" to trivialize those of us who try, in our little ways, to avoid getting too highly magnetized onto that grid. We're either psycho red necks or stuck in the 1960s hippies. Either way, both groups, while seemingly at far ends of the extremist spectrum, are considered lunatic fringe groups not to be taken seriously. Happy lazy dopers or testosterone driven "preppers", doesn't matter. The first group depicted as naive, the second as paranoid, but both are outsider groups that the infrastructure would have us believe are to be ignored, even while a mass suspicion lurks in the back of the collective mind.

Nationally Syndicated Radio Talk Show Host Indicted on Three Felony Charges

Nationally Syndicated Radio Talk Show Host Indicted on Three Felony Charges
Manchester, New Hampshire (PRWEB) July 24, 2012

According to court documents, Adam “Ademo” Mueller, journalist and co-host of nationally syndicated radio talk show Free Talk Live, has been indicted on three counts of felony wiretapping. The charges are a result of a vlog Mueller posted on about an incident involving alleged police misconduct, which featured recorded interviews of on-duty public officials. Mueller’s report focused on video recorded by a student’s cell phone at Manchester’s West High School, which depicted Officer Darren Murphy slamming a 17-year-old boy into a cafeteria table in October of 2011. Although public officials told the student to delete the video, it ended up in Adam Mueller’s hands instead.

The case states that after viewing the footage, Muller called the Manchester Police Department and West High School seeking comment. Muller recorded his interviews with the on-duty public officials, and then included them in a video report on that publicized the allegedly excessive use of police force at the high school. The story went viral. Several months later, the indictments came: three felony counts of wiretapping.

Mind Control: Colorado Shooter Was One of Six Students With Grant for ‘Elite’ Neuroscience Program :

The program to which Holmes was accepted last fall admits just six students a year.
Candidates have top grades and “near perfect” test scores, Shur said. They undergo a background check but no mental examination. “No program requires psychiatric evaluation, to the best of my knowledge,”
Elite neuroscience program with only six students? Unexpected dropout and apparent quick personal downhill plunge?
Mind Control Anyone?
Students studying under an elite neuroscience program would be learning and on the literal cutting edge of developing military and intelligence applications, basically working and learning about forms of mind control.
This stunning fact adds a tremendous amount of credence to the early reports by others that pointed to the shooter being under some sort of mind control.
Sadly, the shooting literally has all the hallmarks of a false flag and this recent revelation is simply the icing on the cake of a long line of information that directly leads to elements of our government as the most likely suspects.
False Flag?

As reported by Intelhub:Video Blogger Documents Expanding TSA Gate Rape Operation :

“TSA teams are increasingly conducting searches and screenings at train stations, subways, ferry terminals and other mass transit locations around the country,” the Los Angeles Times announced in December.

In a spectacle widely reported by the media, the TSA rolled out more than two dozen armed VIPR (Visible Intermodal Prevention & Response) teams around the nation last year and instructed them to violate the Fourth Amendment an estimated 9,300 times with “suspicionless” spot searches of travelers.

VIPR was established in 2005 and has conducted random searches at mass transit hubs with increasing frequency since that time.

In Arizona, You Exist Before You Exist

Things continue to get surreal in Arizona:
Arizona Bill Declares Women Pregnant Two Weeks Before Conception | ZenHaven: Under Arizona’s H.B. 2036, the state would recognize the start of the unborn child’s life to be the first day of its mother’s last menstrual period. The legislation is being proposed so that lawmakers can outlaw abortions on fetuses past the age of 20-weeks, but the verbiage its authors use to construct a time cycle for the baby would mean that the start of the child’s life could very well occur up to two weeks before the mother and father even ponder procreating.

On page eight of the proposed amendment to H.B. 2036, lawmakers lay out the “gestational age” of the child to be“calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period of the pregnant woman,” and from there, outlaws abortion “if the probable gestational age of [the] unborn child has been determined to be at least twenty weeks.”

A political website that contained stinging criticism of the Obama administration and its handling of the Fast and Furious scandal was ordered to be shut down by the Obama campaign’s ‘Truth Team’, according to private investigator Douglas Hagmann, who was told by ISP GoDaddy his site contained information that was “maliciously harmful to individuals in the government.”

Hagmann, CEO of Hagmann Investigative Services, Inc., a private investigative agency serving a roster of Fortune 500 clients, was given 48 hours by GoDaddy to find a new home for his website before it was deleted.

Hagmann was told the reason for the shut down was because the website featured “morally objectionable” material. After GoDaddy refused to identify the complainant, only saying that it was not “any official government agency,” further investigation by Hagmann revealed that the order came from a group tied to Obama campaign headquarters.

Kansas Board of Health Revokes License of Doctor for Not Forcing Ten-Year-Olds to Give Birth

Kansas Board of Health Revokes License of Doctor for Not Forcing Ten-Year-Olds to Give Birth
In a continuing effort to both curb access to abortion and reiterate their own opinion that there is never any situation where abortion could be necessary for a patient's well-being, the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts has decided in favor of revoking Dr. Ann Neuhaus's medical license. Neuhaus, a colleague of Dr. George Tiller, assisted him by providing second opinions for mental health exceptions for late abortions.

According to the Associated Press, Neuhaus was hoping to have her full medical license restored after spending years only allowed to provide limited medical care for charity work. Instead, an ongoing investigation into 11 patient cases obtained by Operation Rescue became the center of a movement to have her license stripped all together.

Giant nuclear cover-up? Explosions, military helicopters filmed near elevated radiation zone at border of Indiana and Michigan | Hang The Bankers | He Who Controls the Money Supply, Controls the World

Something happened June 6th; what is the question.Giant nuclear cover-up? Explosions, military helicopters filmed near elevated radiation zone at border of Indiana and Michigan | Hang The Bankers | He Who Controls the Money Supply, Controls the World
June 6, 2012, was a very strange day for northern Indiana and southern Michigan, where a series of strange explosions and a subsequent nuclear radiation spike left local residents combing for answers. And though there are still many missing pieces to the puzzle, it has become clear that some type of nuclear cover-up is taking place in the region, which is further evidenced by numerous eyewitness accounts of intense shaking and loud booms, audio recordings of inexplicable explosions, and pictures of unmarked aircraft flying during and after the incident.

It all began when separate radiation monitoring stations — a privately-owned Radiation Network station near South Bend, Ind., and a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) RadNet station near Fort Wayne, Ind. — detected extremely high levels of nuclear radiation around the same time between June 6 and June 7. Both stations reportedly began to give radiation readings ranging as high as 7,139 counts per minute (CPM), when a normal reading is typically between five and 60 CPM.

Season of the Drone

Lots of news items in recent days of drones. About a week ago I noticed this item of a drone on the back of a flatbed that drove through D.C.: Military drone mistaken for 'UFO' along DC highways. Drone was uncovered, which was intentional. Calls came into 911 reporting a "UFO." That item and other drone news ended up being the topic for a future UFO Magazine column. Meanwhile, the drone items continue. From all angles. Drones are "UFOs" ha ha ha. No really, the creators proudly tell us, it's not a UFO of course but gee that was fun wasn't it? No, the drone is just the latest dazzling technological feat of the incestuous military industrial complex.

Drone fears are acknowledged. U.S. citizens -- some of us anyway -- share concerns about the increasing totalitarian ways of the U.S. government. Drones as surveillance on U.S. citizens.

More drone news; this link Nepal To Use Drone Aircraft To Combat Poaching Of Endangered Species gives us the warm and fuzzy side of drones. Drones are our friends. They help animals, and who doesn't want to do that?

Speaking of animals -- and surveillance -- for some time now we've been seeing little items of drone bugs and birds. You'll never know they're there. Drones spying on farmers: EPA Defends Use of Spy Planes Over Iowa, Neb. Cattle Ranches. That last has my Fortean conspiratorial mind whirring: cattle mutilations connection, anyone?

NJ school exam's "secret" question angers parents - CBS News

Schools in the UK, United States, Canada, and elsewhere have been staging fake events -- alien invasions, start of WWIII, terrorist attacks, murders on school grounds among the various scenarios -- as part of the disingenous "fostering creative thinking/writing/critical thinking skills." The latest spin on this tweaking of children's minds while ignoring the families roles and authority is this story about New Jersey's state mandated tests and a question given to students about secrets: NJ school exam's "secret" question angers parents - CBS News
(CBS/AP) TRENTON, N.J. - Some New Jersey parents are upset about a standardized test question that asked third-graders to reveal a secret and write about why it was hard to keep.

The question appeared on the writing portion of some versions of the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge given to third-graders this week.

Parents were especially outraged because children may have revealed information that should have stayed private.

"I guarantee you some children will be writing things family members and parents would have rather not revealed to the state," Goldberg said to the Asbury Park Press. He added that if his twin 9-year-old boys, who told him about the question on the test, would have answered "it's none of your darn business" he would have been perfectly fine with their response.

"They want to answer a question; they don't want to fail. I think somebody should be held accountable for putting children in a difficult position in the middle of a test," he added.

The state Education Department says the question was reviewed and approved by both the department and a panel of teachers. The question is being tried out and will not count in the students' scores.(bolding mine)

Note that last sentence: "The question is being tried out and will not count in the students scores."

Asking the obvious questions: why won't it be counted as part of the score, if it appears on a state test? Of course, the issue is, why is this question there at all, regardless of whether or not it counts? So, class, can we say "social engineering?"

UFO Disclosure Countdown Clock: More Foreboding Ends Another Blogger

Rick Phillips on a blog I've long found intriguing: Dan Mitchell's Luminosity. UFO Disclosure Countdown Clock: More Foreboding Ends Another Blogger:

But, this is a post about a specific blog and blogger who, I admit, has been a fascination of mine for a couple years - Dan Mitchell. Dan has been running a blog called Luminosity but with the blog URL of --- Dan has removed EVERY post from public view, something he has done repeatedly over the course of his blogs life. Each time insisting that his words were either too powerful, or too misleading, or simply ideas that he was convinced were not coming from his mind, and that were being used to manipulate the public.

Preparedness & Govt. Control - Shows - Coast to Coast AM

Coincidental, or, not, given the recent news items of things to come in May (see post below): Red Cross alert in Chicago, Russian army military games in U.S., nuclear simulations. Preparedness & Govt. Control - Shows - Coast to Coast AM

"Paranoia runs deep . . . " not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's May; must be time for fakery and fear

News items about fake military attacks and drills, as well as warnings and evacuations, all happening in May. One; a "simulated nuclear attack" with exercises in several states, including Oregon:NORAD and USNORTHCOM Conduct ARDENT SENTRY 2012 The other, "anti-terrorism drills" from the Russian army, by invitation of our government. From Intelhub:
In an email to the New American, Cmdr. Wendy L. Snyder, U.S. Defense Press Officer for policy confirmed the reports:

“The Russian soldiers are here as invited guests of the U.S. government; this is part of a formal bilateral exchange program between the U.S. and Russia that seeks to develop transparency and promote defense reform,” Cmdr. Wendy L. Snyder, U.S. Defense Press Officer for policy, told The New American in an e-mail. “This is the first time that American and Russian special operations troops have participated in a bilateral exercise.”

According to Snyder, the exercises — which she said would last about three weeks in all — will serve to train and improve skills related to terror-war fighting. About 20 Russian soldiers will be participating, with most of the training to take place on the Fort Carson, Colorado, Army base and a mountain training area several hours away.

In Chicago, plans are afoot to evacuate residents during the NATO summit. From CBS Chicago:
CHICAGO (CBS) – Is there a secret plan to evacuate some residents of Chicago in the event of major trouble during the NATO summit next month? CBS 2 has uncovered some evidence that there is. It comes from the Milwaukee area branch of the American Red Cross.

CBS 2 News has obtained a copy of a Red Cross e-mail sent to volunteers in the Milwaukee area.

It said the NATO summit “may create unrest or another national security incident. The American Red Cross in southeastern Wisconsin has been asked to place a number of shelters on standby in the event of evacuation of Chicago.”
